As I sit here at the salon I am reminded that I can still get angry at the religion I left behind, Christianity. I am listening to a group of women, who apparently know everything, talk about someone who was sick.
Apparently this person turned to alternative medicine, in addition to modern medicine. They got better. They made the unfortunate mistake of telling these women that their medical choices had worked. What did these women tell her? Take a guess.
They told her (very proudly I might add, which I know because they said this while discussing) that it most certainly was not the meds she chose… It was God! How could she not see this. Then another woman in the group recounting this story says, “I was SO glad you said that!”
This is so unbelievably ridiculous. Their friend is better and they aren’t happy or congratulatory. They are telling her that it is God who saved her. What a ridiculous reaction.
It is moments like this that remind me I have not let go of all of the anger I have about the religion I left. I still get pissed off at it and want to punch it in the face sometimes.

What’s more, they just had to immediately tell her she was wrong. From where I sit, people like that don’t care about whether this person’s better or not, just being right.
There are a lot of people who aren’t like that in Christianity, but something has bothered me about that. If Christianity is really the secret to living and grants people more moral fortitude than other people simply by believing, then why are any Christians like that? Why don’t Christians exhibit better morals than everyone else simply by virtue of their belief?

How does God choose who to heal and who not to heal? And why can’t he do it without the aid of modern medicine? Not exactly miraculous. The day I see a blind man suddenly regain sight and a dead man come back to life I’ll be impressed.
Christians die or recover from disease at the exact same rate as atheists. The only miracle is Christians continue to give credit to a god who is completely invisible, doesn’t answer their prayers and allows innocent children to die from cancer. When you are continually surrounded by people blinded by the same religion you and I were for so many years, it’s difficult not to be frustrated by the childish behavior.
