Focus on the Family has a new leader, Jim Daly. He’s alraedy making changes and making statements. Statements like, “he wishes more families were more like the Obama’s.” What?? This, from the organization who personally tried to drive Obama into the ground during the election? Well, there is some kind of change. My favorite thing is the visual of Dobson in the crowd listening to this guy say the exact opposite of what Dobson would say. That. is. just. too. good. Now, of course, this guy manages to bring it back to getting all sides to come back to agreeing to be pro-life… so there hasn’t been that much change.
But, then… as if he’s trying to give all those old guys strokes and heart attacks, he goes and eases the dress code for those who work at Focus on the Family. Men no longer need to wear suits and ties… and get this ladies… no more skirts, dresses and hosiery required. Hosiery, skirts, dresses… everyday… what?? I haven’t worn hosiery since my Jr. High graduation, and that was only because I was forced to.
Now, none of this changes my opinion of this organization. I just found this to be an interesting event, given how much I had to hear about how great Dobson and Focus on the Family were when I was in the church.
In case you are wondering, this change in events seems to have some of the ultra conservatives very angry and upset. So… how long do you think this guy will last?

He will last a while. Many ultra-conservatives are easily lured by good looks & charisma. He will have them eating from the palm of his hand in no time.
I do find it rather unbelievable, though. The Dobson era over? Get out!
But, things are changing, and Christianity usually catches up. They used to be racists, remember? And eventually, they started accepting African Americans in their churches.
Jon Stewart (or was it Colbert?) was making fun of the Iran’s opposition leader the other day. He was saying the the new guy was going to let women show their hair–and he made it look like it was a huge move towards moderation.
Now FOF is doing almost exactly the same. Like if not wearing a suit were such a big deal. In the real world, employees haven’t worn suits for 20 years. I thought only lawyers did that anymore.
With the salary they pay their female employees, it is a wonder they could afford hosiery anyway. At least here in Canada, FOF is famous for paying really bad and for slave driving employees.

I know… the Dobson era being over just seems so strange. It’s still amazing to me how out of touch this organization is with the current day. Even with the new regime, they can’t bring themselves into the 21st century.
